The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, on Tuesday, said that the Nigeria Army shall continue to focus its energy and resources on actualizing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to security of life and property of Nigerians.

Gen. Lagbaja also, expressed the Service’s sincere appreciation and unalloyed loyalty to President Tinubu for his untiring support and continued guidance to the Nigerian Army.

The COAS, reiterated this commitment in Abuja, while, unveiling the newly constructed Clubhouse for the Tukur Yusuf Buratai International Golf Resort and Country Club, at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Barracks Asokoro, Abuja.

He said that under his leadership, the Nigerian Army will be deliberate in its efforts to enhance both operational capabilities and the welfare of its personnel through various forms of relevant developmental projects that appeal to building a lethal force that is combat effective.

Gen Lagbaja said, the Army Headquarters will sustain its focus on enhancing the Nigerian Army’s administrative standard by constructing infrastructures and remodeling existing ones to meet international standards.

“Let me place it on record that today’s commissioning marks the beginning of a new chapter in golfing in the Nigerian Army, as this clubhouse will further enhance the status rating of this golf course,” Gen. Lagbaja said.

Noting that passion for the game of golf has brought club where it is today, the COAS expressed optimism that with sustained commitment of club members, this course will soon commence hosting international tournaments.

He noted that a befitting clubhouse of this nature is a necessary infrastructure at any golf course as it offers a point of convergence for golfers and non-golfers to socialize and relax.

The game of golf, he said, is fast becoming a part of the Nigerian Army, and the era of considering it the preserve of some elite few is fast fading away.

“Today, across our big cantonments and barracks, provision is being made for the construction of golf courses opened to our officers, men, and civilians alike. My resolve to make Sound administration, a critical component of my Command Philosophy as Chief of Army Staff is deliberate. I perfectly understand that a total man possesses a sound mind in a sound body, and sports keep body and soul together,” he further said.

Earlier in his address of welcome, the Captain of Tukur Yusuf Buratai International Golf Resort and Country Club, Major General, Samson Sunday Jiya, said that membership of the club has increased to 450 members.

He noted that club, is fast becoming a premier destination for golfers in the world.

Gen. Jiya concluded that the new facility will be a heaven for golfers who will converge at the club to relish the game of golf.
