The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Olatunji Disu, has hosted a town hall meeting with the Hakimi of Kpaduma and Kabi communities to enhance security collaboration and strengthen community policing efforts in their domain, with a view to improving security in the FCT.
A statement by the Command’s Spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, a Superintendent of Police, said that the meeting focused on fostering closer ties between the police and local communities, improving intelligence sharing, and addressing security concerns within the areas.
The Commissioner of Police emphasised the importance of community involvement in crime prevention and assured residents of the Command’s commitment to ensuring their safety.
The FCT Police Command, he said, remains dedicated to proactive policing and encourages residents to report any suspicious activities promptly.
Meanwhile, addressing a press conference earlier in the week, Disu said that the Command’s decisive actions, driven by intelligence and executed with tactical precision, between 1 January and 28 February 2025, led to the arrest of no fewer than 300 suspects and the recovery of a significant cache of arms, ammunition and illicit substances.
He said that the apprehended suspects are currently undergoing thorough profiling and screening, stating that those found culpable will be charged to court to ensure that justice is served, while those cleared of wrongdoing will be released.
The Command, he added, has demonstrated unwavering commitment to the safety of residents by deploying specialised tactical teams to raid identified criminal hideouts and black spots across the FCT.
These operations, Disu said, covered high-risk areas, including Dei-Dei, Karu, Gwarinpa, Jikwoyi, Karimo and Maitama.
He revealed that Divisional Police Officers and Tactical Teams also conducted targeted raids on isolated locations where criminals often lay in wait for unsuspecting victims, stressing that abandoned buildings across the city, frequently used as hideouts and bases for planning illicit activities, have been identified and will be subjected to continuous monitoring and raids.
He said: “In a decisive move against banditry and kidnapping, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Command conducted clearance operations in known bandit routes and kidnappers’ hideouts at the following locations: Gidan-Dogo village, Kweri Forest, Gauraka Forest, and Sardauna Forest. During these special operations, seven kidnappers were neutralised, while several others were arrested.”
Disu said that these proactive measures have significantly disrupted the activities of criminal elements operating along these notorious corridors.
The Commissioner assured that the Command will remain resolute in their mission to dismantle criminal networks and enhance public safety.
Noting that these operations are part of a broader strategy to ensure that criminals have no hiding place within the FCT, Disu applauded the officers and tactical teams involved for their professionalism, bravery, and dedication to duty.
He urged residents to continue supporting the police by providing timely information and reporting suspicious activities.
