Chief Umar Gani Sarki Karmo, Gomo III and the Degachi, (meaning the Village Head) of Karmo Sabo in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has called for interfaith unity and peace amidst the coincidence of the 2026 fasting periods of Christians and Muslims. In an interview, Chief Karmo emphasized that the coincidence is a divine call for believers to come together and promote peace in the country.

Chief Karmo, believes that the coincidence will reduce the rate of committing sins and other bad activities, and urged believers to take advantage of the blessing to foster unity. He emphasized that every religion preaches peace and that believers should strive for unity and understanding.

The village head advised the government to include religious laws in the Constitution to promote peace and unity, and to encourage interfaith dialogue. He also urged followers of different religions to read the Quran and the Bible to understand each other’s teachings.

Chief Karmo promotes peace and unity in his community by allowing Christian crusades in his playground and advising Muslims to respect other religions. He believes that reading holy books is essential for guiding believers and promoting unity.

The division within religions is a problem that should be addressed, Chief Karmo said, emphasizing the importance of striving for unity and following God’s teachings. He also stated that music is not allowed in Islam and that worship should be done with respect and dignity.

Chief Karmo attributed the frequent fire outbreaks in Karmo markets to a test from God, advising patience and prayer. He urged everyone to promote peace, unity, and love, and to read the holy books to guide them.

The coincidence of the fasting periods is a call for unity and peace among all human beings, Chief Karmo said, emphasizing the importance of respecting and understanding each other’s religions.

By reading holy books, respecting each other’s religions, and promoting peace and unity, Nigerians can achieve interfaith understanding and peace, Chief Karmo concluded.
