The federal government has reiterated its determination to substantially ease the strangulating economic stress faced by citizens through the empowerment of 10 million hardworking Nigerians and creation of One million jobs in two years.
Dr Doris Uzoka- Anite, the minister of Industry, Trade and Investment gave the assurance Friday while giving insight into what her ministry is doing to ameliorate the suffering of job seekers, as part of the relaunched ministerial briefing, amid the runaway inflation, food insecurity and multidimensional poverty that has hit the country.
She said that the administration has outlined multi-pronged approach to addressing the problem, while at the same keeping track of any successes achieved in job creation.
To this end she said the government has concluded plans to create a National Job Centre where available vacancies in public and private businesses would be domiciled for transparent distribution and access to all.
She said the job centres when created will ensure a transparent,full proof process in job recruitment , noting that often youths do not have opportunities to apply for jobs when vacancies are declared in some government and private agencies pointing out the the Centres would curb the lack of transparency both in the number of those who eventually land a job as well as the process of recruitment.
“We are going to be Launching under the mandate of His excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, job centres in all the states of the federation, starting with the virtual job centres we will also launch the physical job centres in all States of the federation. We are starting with the one in Abuja with a facility that is being donated to us by SMEDAN
“For all job opportunities that have been created by our industries; it is the private sector that create jobs . industrial growth, economic growth is driven by the private sector. Dor us to keep track and monitor the progress and make sure that employment opportunities gets to every body. We are starting with FCT, those who apply online can go online and see what job opportunities are available and take advantage of it
“We are creating a National job centre to match available vacancies in industries and businesses with available talent pool. The job centre will also train and equip people to be job-ready. One such initiative is the Skill-UP Artisans program (SUPA) led by our parastatal the Industrial Training Fund (ITF).
“The program will empower artisans with tech-enabled skills training, licensing, access to essential toolkits, and promoting industry-standard excellence. SUPA addresses the skills deficiency among artisans and standardizes artisanal practice, the program ensures the availability of a skilled workforce for domestic industries, thereby reducing labour import dependency.
“Over a two-year period, the program aims to empower 10 million hard-working Nigerians, and reflects the government’s commitment to promoting economic development and improving citizens’ standard of living, and job creation.
“Still in furtherance of job-creation, skills development and talent exports we launched the NATEP – to create 1m jobs including talent exchange/export, business process outsourcing and job outsourcing.
“We are engaging and signing MOUs with world class organizations and governments on this.
Additionally, and in furtherance of the 8-point agenda of the President Tinubu-Led administration, the ministry is taking decisive steps to attract capital investments that will transform our homegrown enterprises into global players.
“We have just recently concluded a stakeholder engagement with our domestic private equity and asset management firms towards the launch of an Investment Mobilization Initiative aimed at increasing local and foreign investment as a catalyst for economic growth in Nigeria.”, she declared .
