The Federal Government has bemoaned an apathy of participation of civil servants in the annual Federal Education Sector Games (FEDUGAM).

The Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, was speaking at the 4th Edition of the Annual Federal Education Sector Games tagged “FEDUGAM BAUCHI 2024”, in Abuja on Friday.

Mamman, represented by the Minister of State for Education, Dr Yusuf Sununu, appealed to Chief Executives of agencies to always support the game by generously donating to offset its myriad cost.

According to him, the call for support for the game is however not restricted to our agencies, but to corporate organisation and partners both local and international.

“My attention has been drawn to the huge apathy of participation by almost half of the ministry’s agencies.

“This narrative is unacceptable and I therefore urge all Chief Executives to encourage the participation of their agencies in the forthcoming FEDUGAM BAUCHI 2024 game and subsequent ones,” he said.

On his part, the FEDUGAM Steering Committee Chairman, Mr Omotayo Adeyemi said the game was created to promote unity, friendship and synergy as well as inculcating the spirit of good sportsmanship.

Adeyemi encouraged participants to always approach the games with integrity, enthusiasm, and a splint of Comradeship.

“The essence of these games lies not just in winning but in the experiences and lessons learned along the way.

“The issue of apathy of participation by some agencies in the annual games has become issue of serious concern that requires urgent intervention by the Minister and the management of the ministry.

It would be recalled that the game, scheduled to take place at the Abubarkar Tafawa Balewa Stadium, Bauchi State, is expected to kickstart on Aug. 3 and end on Aug.10.

The event featured the investiture ceremony of the outstanding contributions of individuals who have played pivotal roles in the success of the games and formal unveiling of the game MASCOT.
