There has been a fire incident at the headquarters of the Federal Ministry of Works, Mabushi, Abuja.

The incident, which occurred soon after workers resumed work on Friday, was attributed to a spark from a faulty circuit breaker on the ground floor. It was however quickly contained before much damage was done.

Director of Press and Public Relations of the Ministry, Mohammed A. Ahmed, while confirming the incident, said, “A minor fire incident occurred at 11:30 am at Block A of the Ministry.

“The incident was as a result of a spark from a faulty circuit breaker in the electrical control room on the ground floor.

“The Station Commander, Federal Fire Service, Federal Ministry of Works, Headquarters, Mr. Kekai Bekebi, informed me that there was a quick response from his team, who were able to put the situation under control by deploying available fire extinguishers. He added that a successful evacuation exercise of staff was also carried out.

“The Director, Human Resource Management, Mr. Aliyu Abdullahi stated that no loss of document, no injuries, and no casualties were recorded, as he further commended the staff for their general conduct while the incident lasted.”

Normal activities have since resumed with maintenance staff cleaning the debris and putting other items in place.
