The Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation, an NGO dedicated to transforming public service delivery and improving access to quality healthcare, has called on Nigerians to nominate more Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) for renovation.

The foundation’s Director of Health Philanthropy, Dr Nonye Egekwu, made the call in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja.

She stated that the foundation is inviting nominations to transform PHCs across Nigeria under its Adopt-A-Healthcare-Facility Programme (ADHFP).

She added that “the initiative, facilitated by the Private Sector Health Alliance of Nigeria (PSHAN), seeks to revitalise primary healthcare centres in Nigeria.

“Having already revitalised four healthcare centres in Edo, we plan to renovate 14 more across Nigeria.

“So, the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation is reaching out to the public to nominate additional centres in local government areas across the country
that are in urgent need of revitalisation.”

Egekwu said that the nomination campaign would run from Nov. 4 to Dec. 31.

She explained that PHCs are indispensable to community health, providing essential services such as immunisation, maternal care and disease prevention.

She, however, added that in spite of the existence of more than 30,000 PHCs nationwide, approximately 80 per cent lack the resources necessary to deliver basic healthcare services.

She stated that “this gap leaves millions vulnerable, particularly women and children. Alarmingly, Nigeria’s maternal mortality rate remains one of the
highest globally, with one in 22 women facing lifetime risk of death due to pregnancy or childbirth-related complications.

“However, through the ADHFP, we are dedicated to transforming PHCs into world-class facilities, capable of providing essential care and support to
Nigerian families.”

She added that the ADHFP exemplified an innovative Public-Private Partnership that empowers individuals and organisations to adopt PHC centres,
driving improvements in infrastructure, equipment and staffing.

She said the collaboration aligned seamlessly with national healthcare objectives and reinforces government’s agenda to strengthen primary healthcare systems across Nigeria.

“This is a unique opportunity for communities to advocate for their healthcare needs and play a vital role in shaping the future of healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
