The Ghanaian High Commission in Abuja, has expressed grief over the passing of late High Commissioner, Rashid Bawa.
In a statement circulated through the Diplomatic Correspondent Association of Nigeria, the High Commission said, it will open a condolence register for the late High Commissioner, Rashid Bawa, next week in Abuja.
The 65 years old former Ambassador to Saudi Arabia who died on Thursday 14 March, 2024, the Mission said, has since been flown back to Ghana for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
The statement disclosed that he represented Akan Constituency of the Oti Region, between 7 January 2001 and 6 January 2005, at the Ghanaian National Parliament, on the platform of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
“In June 2017, President Akufo-Addo named Rashid Bawa who contested as an independent candidate to head Ghana’s High Commission in Nigeria among eight other distinguished Ghanaians who were named to head various diplomatic Ghanaian missions across the world,” the statement further said.
The condolence register, it concluded will be open as soon as the Deputy Head of Mission, Mr. E.M. Agbenyegah who took the corpse of the high commissioner to Ghana for burial returns to Nigeria.
