The Anambra State Police Command has provided a fresh update on its investigation into the alleged kidnapping of three Cameroonian women in the state.

The Command had earlier confirmed the arrest of two suspects — 37-year-old Nonso Augustine Akpeh and 44-year-old Kingsley Akpeh — who are currently assisting detectives with crucial information.

In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, said that in furtherance of the investigation, operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, undertook a major search operation on the evening of 28 November 2025.

Working alongside professional river divers and local volunteers, the team combed the Omambala River in Anambra West Local Government Area.

During the operation, officers recovered two decomposed female bodies believed to be among the kidnapped victims.

The family of the victims was immediately contacted, and they identified the bodies as those of Mrs Bognou Alice and her niece, Miss Sandra.

Both bodies, Tochukwu
said have since been deposited in a mortuary for further examination and other necessary investigative procedures.

Expressing his condolences to the bereaved family, the Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, directed an intensified search to locate the third missing victim.

He also ordered a renewed manhunt for the remaining suspect, Uchenna Nicholas Mmadu, who is currently on the run, stressing that he must be brought to justice.

The Commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives, maintaining security, and ensuring that all those involved in the crime face the full weight of the law.
