By Chijioke Attah.

A Senate aspirant for Enugu North zone Obetta Williams Uchenna has described the National Democratic Congress primaries as “fraudulent and a sham”.

According to him, the primaries was a deceit and a script written by some disgruntled politicians to undermine the collective will of the people to choose their representatives.

Speaking to the press after the primaries, Obetta said he pulled out of the exercise when he discovered that the entire process had been compromised.
“There were so many irregularities, so many fraudulent activities already going on at the background before today”, he fumed.

In his words, the five man elections committee sent by the National leadership of the party were compromised as they came to deliver some predetermined aspirants.

Obetta said the elections committee members had series of meetings with some select aspirants in a hotel in Enugu before the primaries in accordance with the script they came to act.

He maintained that there was no plans to conduct any primaries as witnessed by the crowd that came out for elections but no officials to conduct the elections.

“Everyone is a witness to the fraud that happened today, a kangaroo show of shame. What we were running away from the APC is what we are seeing here today”.

The aspirant expressed disappointment that the NDC which was thought to be the last hope of the people to entrench democratic principles had been hijacked by the same old politicians that ruined the country through their corrupt practices.

He dissociated himself from the “fraudulent primaries” and promised to pursue his political aspirations through other platforms “to teach the old politicians a bitter lesson and modern way of politicking”.

He advised the political class to shun imposition of unpopular candidates on the people but to always allow the peoples a say in choosing who represents them.
