Nigeria has taken another significant step toward strengthening its diplomatic and economic relationship with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia following the formal commencement of Ambassador-designate Dr. Yakubu Gambo’s diplomatic mission in Riyadh.

In line with established diplomatic protocol, Ambassador Gambo presented copies of his Letter of Credence to Ambassador Abdulmajeed bin Rashid Al-Samari, the Undersecretary of Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Protocol Affairs.

The ceremony marks the beginning of his official engagement with the Saudi government ahead of the formal presentation of his original Letter of Credence to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

The development has been widely applauded as a positive milestone in Nigeria’s foreign policy, reflecting the country’s determination to deepen bilateral cooperation with one of its most important partners in the Middle East.

During the engagement, Ambassador Gambo reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to expanding collaboration with Saudi Arabia in key areas including trade, investment, energy, education, cultural exchange, diplomacy and security. He also pledged to work closely with Saudi authorities to promote mutually beneficial initiatives that align with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and Nigeria’s development priorities.

The Nigerian envoy expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded him by the Saudi government, describing it as a reflection of the enduring friendship and mutual respect shared by both nations.

In his remarks, Ambassador Abdulmajeed Al-Samari welcomed the Nigerian ambassador-designate and reaffirmed the Kingdom’s readiness to strengthen existing ties with Nigeria.

He assured Ambassador Gambo of Saudi Arabia’s full cooperation and support throughout his diplomatic assignment, while highlighting the importance of sustained collaboration in trade, investment, energy, education, security, and the welfare of Nigerian pilgrims and residents in the Kingdom.

Ambassador Gambo’s appointment is expected to usher in a new phase of productive engagement between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia, further consolidating decades of cordial relations and opening fresh opportunities for economic growth, diplomatic cooperation and shared prosperity.
