Nigerian university VC suspended, a replacement named

Professor Innocent Ujah, the pioneer Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo (FUHSO) in Benue State, has been suspended over allegations of gross misconduct and willful disregard for authority.

In a statement released by James Onogwu, the institution’s Coordinator of Information, Publication, and Public Relations, it was confirmed that the university’s Governing Council made the decision during a special meeting held on October 17, 2024.

Following the suspension, Professor Ediga Bede Agbo was appointed as the acting Vice Chancellor of the university.

The meeting, chaired by the Pro Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Engr. Ohieku Muhammed Salami, saw the immediate appointment of Prof. Agbo to ensure continuity in the university’s leadership.

“The Pro Chancellor and Chairman Governing Council and Members, earlier, during the meeting suspended the pioneer Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Innocent Ujah, mni, OON, NPOM, for alleged gross misconduct and willful disregard to its authority,” the statement added.

It also stated that the new vice chancellor, a sexagenarian and renowned professor of microbiology, is a native of Otukpo in Benue State.

Prof Agbo, according to the statement, has since assumed duty as the acting Vice Chancellor of FUHSO for a period of six months.
