*Seek construction of market motor park

By Toby Chuks

Traders at Nkpor Main Market, located along the Onitsha – Enugu Expressway, Nkpor in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State have hailed the Governor of the State, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo for what they described as giant strides of good governance code named Solution saying that Nkpor Main Market is now more sophisticated than ever courtesy of Soludo’s Solution drive.

Speaking to journalists shortly after the last market prayers for the year, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of the Market Chief Paul Okafor stated that the market is thriving under Governor Soludo’s Solution drive and is now more equipped with good security measures, good water system with functional bore holes, enough fire extinguisher, effective sanitation drive with good waste management system and solar energy system that provides steady electricity mostly in the night for security and ease of doing business.

Chief Okafor listed various projects and programs his administration was able to achieve within the 2024 fiscal year beating his chest that Nkpor Main Market is the first Market to pay in 100 percent of the traders stallage fees under Internal Generated Revenue (IGR) into the State government coffers.

According to him “traders of Nkpor Main Market are very cooperative with the authorities. We comply with every directive given from both the State Government and Anambra State Markets Amalgamated Traders Association (ASMATA) especially when we see the tax payers money at work considering the numerous projects carried out by Governor Chukwuma Soludo in different sectors of the State.

“Nkpor Main Market is the first major market to pay up the #17,500 tax for the 2024 fiscal year. Also, we are the only market that the IGR enforcement team has come to Cross check for total compliance

“All major entrance into the market have been decongested. We have installed 22 Solar powered search lights around the market. The only thing remaining now is the installation of solar powered Security CCTV Cameras which the state government gave out to a contractor.

He said traders also contributed #1,700 to carry out some of the internal projects including Repairing all the gates at the market entrance to ensure that there is no porous area for hoodlums to access the market. Also, we repaired the culverts at the major gates which used to be impassable for vehicles bringing in goods into the market.

While giving Governor Soludo excellent mark in performance he pleaded with the governor to come and construct the market motor park to prevent possible out break of erosion adding the traders cannot fulfill the construction bill because it is too expensive. “We are calling on our Solution working governor to assist us by constructing the major motor park in the market because it is very cost intensive” he added.
