Contrary to the rumours making the rounds that the Abia State House of Assembly was making moves to impeach the Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu PhD, the Abia State House of Assembly has come out boldly to say that there is no plans on its table.
The 24-man assembly in a press conference on Saturday dismissed the rumour making the rounds in the social media platforms that the House was planning to impeach the Abia chief executive, describing it as the handiwork of rumour peddlers.
The lawmakers who spoke to journalists after meeting with Governor Ikpeazu at the Governor’s Lodge, Aba, asked the people of the state to disregard the rumour. The lawmakers were led by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Uchendu.
In their comments, the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Solomon Akpulonu and the Minority Leader, Hon. Chukwu Chijioke, described the rumour as “a figment of the imagination of its purveyors”, even as they described it as “a blatant lie from the pit of hell”.
According to them, “we’re yet to even reconvene after the election recess. How do we then carry out an impeachment when we’ve reconvened? The rumour should not receive attention at all”.
They explained that the governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, has done well in the state, adding that the House is happy with him, “and therefore there is no need for any impeachment”.
The lawmakers described those spreading the rumour as idle persons, saying that they were only doing that to malign the State House of Assembly.
The Minority Leader, Chukwu Chijioke argued that there is no way impeachment proceedings would be carried out without his knowledge as the Minority Leader and therefore urged Abians to disregard the rumour which he described as “unfounded”.
The lawmakers used the opportunity to reassure the people of the state of their support to Ikpeazu to enable him complete his tenure successfully.
