The State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Abia, Mr Yunusa Tanimu, has assured members of the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream II that the nation has confidence in their ability to contribute meaningfully to national development.

He gave the assurance on Tuesday during the closing ceremony and terminal parade of the orientation course held at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Umunna, Bende.

“Nigeria believes in you, and we believe in your potential to make a difference,” Tanimu said.

Tanimu congratulated the corps members on the successful completion of the three-week exercise and commended them for their discipline, resilience, and active participation.

Presiding over the low-key ceremony, he noted that the orientation course, which began a few weeks ago amid a mix of anxiety, excitement, and uncertainty, had transformed into an experience that built confidence, friendship, discipline, and a renewed sense of national purpose.

He urged the corps members to sustain the values of teamwork, leadership, tolerance, discipline, and self-reliance acquired during the program.

“As you receive your posting letters and proceed to your places of primary assignment, see yourselves as ambassadors of the NYSC, your families, and your institutions,” Tanimu said.

He encouraged them to identify needs in their host communities and use their skills to provide solutions that would leave a lasting impact.

He also advised them to avoid night journeys, remain security conscious, and respect the traditions and culture of their host communities.

The coordinator warned against criminality, cultism, drug abuse, and other acts capable of bringing the scheme into disrepute.

He further urged the corps members to participate actively in the post-camp Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development, programme and Community Development Service activities to equip themselves for life after service.

Tanimu reaffirmed the support of the Abia State Government under Gov. Alex Otti for corps members’ welfare and development.

He thanked the governor for approving an increase in the state monthly allowance and for the swift intervention following a windstorm that damaged some camp hostels during the course.

He also appealed to corps employers not to reject posted corps members but to provide guidance, mentorship, and a conducive working environment.

A total of 2,045 corps members participated in the three-week orientation course in state.
