The Nigeria Police Force Headquarters announced the recovery of 1,519 stolen vehicles in 2024, thanks to the implementation of the electronic Central Motor Registry (e-CMR) platform. In January 2025 alone, 52 vehicles have already been recovered.
Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, revealed the success during a briefing, attributing it to public cooperation and the growing use of the e-CMR system, which now has over 400,000 registered vehicles.
According to ACP Adejobi: 1,011 stolen vehicles have been reported on the platform.
5,877 vehicles with conflicting information are currently under investigation.
In October 2024, three stolen vehicles were recovered and returned to their owners.
Recently, two stolen vehicles were recovered in Kano State using the e-CMR platform.
One notable success involved the recovery of a Toyota Highlander stolen in 2021. The vehicle was tracked and flagged through the e-CMR portal after being sold in Kano. It was eventually recovered in Enugu State, and the rightful owner expressed gratitude for the system’s efficiency.
