Provost warns students against illicit drugs

The Provost, National Defence Colleague, Prof. Adam Ahmed has cautioned students against getting involved in illicit drugs capable of destroying their lives.
Ahmed gave the warning during the 23/24 graduation ceremony of Command Secondary School Suleja and the Public Presentation of two books written by the students, on Monday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a magazine titled ‘The Face of Time’ and a book ‘The Anthology of Poems’, were authored by some students of the school.
Addressing the students, the Provost said that illicit drugs has been a major challenge among the youths and this could be traceable to peer pressure.
He challenged the students to be watchful with the friends they keep adding that it had been envisioned that by 2030, 30 million youths would find their way into illicit drugs.
“By 2030, more than 30 million youths will be on drugs and this happened because of the peer groups they keep.
“I want to warn you against drug abuse because this is what the youths are involved in.
“Drugs changes the thinking of the youths and they lost their love and kindness towards human, leading them into killing their fellow humans.
“Don’t join people with crooked act, drug abusers but focus on what you have learnt over the past six years,” he said.
The Provost also charged the students to remain disciplined , focused and committed to attaining greater heights.
He reiterated the need to shun any act capable to truncating the visions of the students as they transcend into tertiary institutions.
“You should strive to impact on the society, either from tertiary institutions or anywhere you find yourself, just distinguish yourself from others,” he said.
On the unveiling of the school Magazine Publication, Ahmed urged those who contributed to publication to keep the flag flying.
He also emphasised on the need for the students to develop special focus on skills noting that this would help them achieve and tackle challenges in life.
On his part, the Acting Commandant of the School, Lt.- Col. Rufai Aliyu, urged the students to make diligent and hard work their watchword in their endeavours.
Aliyu called on the 325 graduands to work hard and remain focus on their dreams as well as continue to be the ambassador of the school in the outside world.
“The school has so far witnessed tremendous progress in academics and infrastructural development.
” It has also put in so much efforts and measures to raise students who can confidently compete academically and fit in anywhere in the world,” he said.
In the same vein, the Army Education Commandant, Maj.-Gen. Bello Tsoho, tasked students to shun cultism while also cherishing their integrity and dignity in making the school proud.
Represented by the former Director General, National Youth Service Corp (NYSC), Shuaibu Ibrahim, encouraged the students to be a guiding light while also representing their alma mater in the good light.
Highlights of the event was the presentation of academic awards to best students from the Junior Secondary class one to Senior Secondary Class three.(NAN)
