*Clear the air on Local Government election in Anambra
By Toby Chuks
The State Chairman of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in Anambra State High Chief Sir Ifeatu Obi Okoye has attributed the success of APGA to a strong Christian background powered mostly by individual passion to fear God and serve humanity as Christians on one hand and on the hand by ecumenical force of various denominations that are praying for the State and helping to build the people, to boost quality education, good healthcare services, create jobs and respect for the rule of law among other things.
The APGA boss who spoke to journalists on a side chat at a function organized by the Pentecostal Federation of Nigeria (PFN) in Awka the State capital with Mr Governor Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo in attendance explained that members of APGA as mostly Christians like himself know that they are in politics to serve the people with fear of God and love for humanity to render good governance to the people and that is why APGA is doing a very good job in Anambra State.
He went further to explain that the performance of government of Anambra State under APGA is enhanced by what he described as ecumenical support of the various Christian denominations like the Catholic, Anglican and Pentecostal among others who are helping to build the people, build quality education, good healthcare service, create jobs and ensuring the prevalence of rule of law among other things that are making Anambra to move forward.
He cited the function organized by the PFN as example of how Christian denominations are boosting the performance of government thus “today, Governor Soludo is here to rededicate a hospital build by PFN and to witness the graduation of 500 youth trained by the PFN on various skills in tune with the government one youth two skills initiative, similar programs are obtainable in other denominations that is how the government is benefiting from the Christian fold”
On the agitation in some quarter for Soludo led government to conduct Local government election, the chairman cleared the air by stating some teething issues surrounding the election which include bewildering litigation over the national leadership of APGA and litigation surrounding the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) informing that some members of ANSIEC who removed before Soludo came in as Governor are in court challenging the circumstances behind their removal.
He added “People should know that the atmosphere is not yet conducive for local government election in Anambra owing to litigations surrounding ANSIEC leadership. Are you going to conduct election without ANSIEC in place to organize things? That is not possible. However I want to assure them that the APGA led government will conduct a credible local government election in Anambra when the time is ripped unlike those kangaroo elections they conduct in other states where a single party wins all seats of chairmanship and councilorship”
