Two Arrested, As Masked Men In Military Camouflage Suspected Be Yoruba Nation Agitators Invade Oyo govt Secretariat

Some masked men suspected to be Yoruba Nation Agitators on Saturday stormed Oyo State Government Secretariat.

The men, that was sighted by our reporter in a circulating video clad in military camouflage and armed with rifles.

The suspected agitators were sighted at the entrance of the Secretariat while some of them positioned themselves at strategy points inside the Secretariat.

Some were also sighted at the entrance to the Governor’s office gate, while others were seen at the entrance to the State House of Assembly Gate and others at the main entrance among others.

The incident which happened in the early morning sent panic waves across the entire area as the security operatives on duty at the Secretariat were said to have been shocked and their efforts in trying to handle the situation was to no avail.

The identity of the masked men could not be clearly ascertained as at the time of this report.

Men of the Police from the state Command and other anticrime agencies stormed the entrance to the Secretariat in numerous patrol vans.

The situation later turned into gun duel as the joint security operatives that were on ground, the security operatives engaged the agitators who were trying to force their ways into the state House of Assembly Complex.

Motorists plying the route were said to had made a detour as many other road users scamper to safety. Road users enroute Secretariat were diverted along Customs Junction as the Secretariat-Queen Elizabeth Road has been cut off traffic.

The Executive Assistant to the Governor on Security, CP Sunday Odukoya (retired) was also on ground to calm the situation, but the masked men insisted on hoisting their flags in the Secretariat.

The arrival of the military officers from the 2Div of the Nigerian Army, about an hour later changed the narrative as they stormed the vicinity, as some of the agitators at the entrance gate of the Secretariat took to their heels.

The hostile and stern looking officers were said to have swooped on them, and went after the masked agitators.The main entrance of the state Secretariat was shut.

Shop owners, business and residents around Bodija, Ikolaba, enroute Awolowo were said to have quickly locked up their shops and doors as some who were about opening for the days business turned back.

As at the time of doing this report two out of the suspected agitators have been arrested for their alleged role in the invasion of the Oyo State Government Secretariat.

The duo, an old man with grey air and a middle aged man, whose names cannot be confirmed as at press time, were arrested by the police, bearing Yoruba Nation flags.

Armed with amulets and some charms, they were singing solidarity song claiming they wanted Yoruba Nation.

The Security operatives did not allow reporters to interview them but the aged man was heard claiming he is the father of Yoruba Nation.

They have been taken by security operatives to the Police Command for further interrogation.
