FRSC’s “Operation Karara” Records 823 Traffic Violations Arrests In Abuja

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has launched a significant enforcement operation, “Operation Karara,” resulting in the arrest of 823 drivers for traffic violations in Abuja.

In a statement, Olusegun Ogungbemide, the Corps Commander, Corps Public Education Officer, noted that the initiative, activated on September 2, 2024, aims to address the rampant issues of traffic light and zebra crossing violations that contribute to road accidents and congestion in the Federal Capital Territory.

During this operation, the FRSC issued 923 fines, impounded 189 vehicles, and confiscated 634 licenses and vehicle documents.

The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, emphasized the critical need to curb traffic light violations, which pose serious risks to road safety. He expressed satisfaction with the operation’s early successes and urged continued collaboration with other security agencies to enhance traffic management.

The arrested drivers face various charges, including dangerous driving and road marking violations.

The FRSC has called on motorists to comply with traffic regulations to foster a safer driving environment in Abuja.

“The statement reads in part: “The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has arrested 823 drivers, administered 923 fines, impounded 189 vehicles and confiscated 634 licenses and vehicle particulars for traffic light, zebra crossing and other violations, within the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. These arrests were effected during a special enforcement operations activated on 2 September, 2024.

“You would recall that on the 1 of September, 2024, Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed had commissioned a special enforcement patrol tagged ‘Operation Karara’ to tackle the menace of traffic light and Zebra crossing violations in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

“The operation, which targets to reduce the high incidence of traffic light violations, that contribute significantly to road crashes and gridlocks in the nation’s capital; is expected to actualize it’s mandate through speedy arrest and prosecution of traffic light violators, conduct of public enlightenment and education on traffic rules and regulations, as well as collaboration with other security agencies to enhance traffic management”.
