A committed member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Alhaji Umar Bibi states that his party remains the party to beat in the nation’s capital. Bibi maintains that no political party can defeat his party in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Defending his party’s dominance in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) and the FCT, Bibi attributed the PDP’s success to its strong roots in the communities and the party’s ability to produce capable candidates.
Speaking in his office in Idu, the host community of Idu Industrial Area of the FCT, Bibi expressed confidence in the PDP’s chances in the upcoming area council election. “The PDP is going to win because it is the party to beat in AMAC and the entire FCT,” he said. Despite the defection of some party members, including AMAC Executive Chairman Hon Christopher Zakka, Bibi believes the PDP will emerge victorious.
He emphasized the importance of indigeneity in FCT elections, noting that non-indigenes cannot win elections in the territory. He cited the example of Princess Vivian Anazodo, a non-indigene who contested for office in the past but failed to win.
The staunch party member highlighted the PDP’s capable candidate for the AMAC Chairmanship election, Hon Zada Dantani, a Gnagyi man from AMAC. He expressed confidence in Dantani’s ability to win the election and urged PDP members to remain peaceful and focused on casting their votes.
Bibi advised PDP members to avoid violence during the election, saying: “Let there be no violence during the election, because we know the victory is ours.” He emphasized the importance of following the votes to the winning side and ensuring a smooth transition.
On the future of the PDP in the FCT, Bibi said: “The PDP has been existing in Abuja, and anybody telling you that the PDP is no more existing in Abuja is telling you a lie.” He expressed confidence in the party’s continued dominance in the territory, citing its history and strong roots in the community.
