The Alor People’s Convention has called on the people of Alor, both at home and in the diaspora, to embrace peace, unity and reconciliation following the judgment of the Court of Appeal, Asaba Division, on the longstanding Alor Igweship dispute.

In a statement issued on Saturday, October 31, 2026, and signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Convention, Udoagwa MC (Ugodimkpa Alor), the Convention described the judgment delivered on Friday, October 30, 2026, in Appeal No. CA/AW/95/2022, as a significant development in the traditional leadership affairs of Alor Kingdom.

The Convention explained that although it would ordinarily not have considered it necessary to issue a public statement on the judgment, its involvement as a party to the suit through the Town Union Government made it imperative to formally communicate its position to the people.

It disclosed that it had received a preliminary briefing from its legal representatives on the proceedings and judgment but was awaiting the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the judgment, which its lawyers indicated would be available in the coming days. The Convention assured the public that the judgment would be carefully studied and further clarification provided where necessary.

The Alor People’s Convention commended the Honourable Justices of the Court of Appeal, Asaba Division, for their courage and judicial diligence in upholding the judgment of the High Court of Anambra State, Ogidi Judicial Division, delivered on February 17, 2022.

The Convention also congratulated HRM Evangelist Collins Chukwumesili, who emerged as the people’s choice for the Igweship throne through the court-ordered procedure, wishing him wisdom, humility and a strong spirit of service as he prepares to lead Alor into a new chapter of its traditional institution.

Emphasising the need for unity, the Convention urged all sons and daughters of Alor to rise above personal interests, political affiliations and traditional differences, stressing that the overall interest of the community must take precedence over individual considerations.

It particularly appealed to all principal actors and stakeholders involved in the dispute to sheath their swords, put aside personal grievances and embrace genuine reconciliation, noting that the outcome of the judgment should not create winners and losers among the people.

The Convention further called on all stakeholders to support the administration of Chief Emma Ojukwu (Agbigwe), President-General of the Alor People’s Convention, in its efforts to restore lasting peace, rebuild public confidence and strengthen the bonds of brotherhood among the people.

It also cautioned against mockery, provocation, insults, derogatory comments and abusive language directed at any individual or group over the judgment. According to the Convention, the court’s decision should not be used as an instrument of humiliation, division or renewed hostility.

Describing the development as a defining moment in the history of Alor Kingdom, the Convention stressed that the community’s common heritage, collective dignity and the future of generations yet unborn must remain paramount.

It called on all Alor people to transform the development into an opportunity for reconciliation, mutual understanding and sustainable community development, while urging stakeholders to cooperate with the appropriate authorities and respect all lawful processes.

The statement concluded by reaffirming the Convention’s commitment to peace, justice, unity and the overall development of Alor Kingdom.

The Convention also disclosed that the President-General, Chief Emma Ojukwu (Agbigwe), would personally address the people of Alor upon receipt and examination of the Certified True Copy of the Court of Appeal judgment.
