Ohanaeze Ndigbo (Worldwide) has called on the Federal Government to immediately release the detained leader of Nnandi Kanu), the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOP).

Speaking at a press conference after a meeting with stakeholders of the Lagos State council of the organization on Wednesday, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the president-general of the organization, said that Nnamdi did not commit any offence known in law.

According to him, “We have not seen any offence Nnamdi Kanu committed. A court in Nigeria has released Nnamdi Kanu; we Igbo leaders do not see any reason whatsoever why Nnamdi Kanu should be kept in detention… we believe that keeping Nnamdi Kanu in detention is an effort to collaborate with elements who want to destroy the economy of the Southeastern states. So we are appealing to the Federal Government to release Nnamdi Kanu because if he is released, we can now know those who are criminals and agitators.

Iwuanyanwu added, “I believe that President Tinubu will release Nnamdi Kanu because we have not been told what offence he committed. He was not caught carrying any AK-47. People are carrying AK-47 all over the country and Nnamdi Kanu did not carry any and he is still detained. The worst part of it is that Nnamdi Kanu is sick and if he dies in prison, it will create a lot of problems for us.”

He recalled that Nigeria’s first Aviation Minister, Chief Mabzulike Amechi, the five Southeast governors and other stakeholders had called on the Federal Government to release the detained IPOB leader.

The president-general of Ohanaeze argued that once Nnamdi is released, the security situation in the Southeast will return to normal.

He added that the security situation in the Southeast is not worse than that in other parts of the country, adding that releasing Nnamdi Kanu will make the region a peaceful place.

Speaking on the relation between Igbo people and Yoruba in Lagos State, Iwuanyanwu said Igbo people are law-abiding people who respect their hosts.

He stated Igbo people in Lagos State know that they are not owners of the place, adding that they bought every property they own.

He urged President Tinubu to be fair in appointing people into his cabinet.
