Portuguese football great Cristiano Ronaldo would avoid visiting Iran for now after a court in the Islamic state sentenced him to 99 lashes.

This is because a meeting in September with an Iranian painter Fatima Hamami, who is 85 percent paralyzed and a declared fan of the Portuguese, has apparently left consequences for the 38-year-old Al Nassr attacker.

Ronaldo visited Tehran, the capital of Iran, with Al-Nassr in September to face Persepolis in the group stage of the Asian Champions League.

While in Tehran, the Portuguese international met Hamami, who would have facilitated the meeting.

The woman wanted to give Ronaldo a painting that she had made especially for him.

After accepting the gift, Ronaldo hugged the woman as a thank you.

A video of the appointment where Cristiano hugged the lady circulated on social networks.

According to ‘Sharq Emroz’ channel a large number of Iranian lawyers have filed a complaint as a result about this hug, because based on Iranian law, touching a woman is equivalent to adultery.

The network reported that the Iranian justice system reacted quickly and sentenced Ronaldo to 99 lashes, which the Portuguese will receive the next time he travels to Iran.

Expect Ronaldo to avoid Iran for now.
