The programmes for the 2023 celebration of New Yam Festival for the Alor community in  Idemili South Local Government of Anambra State has begun this weekend with the visit of Ezediohamma 111, Igwe ji ófór Alor, and some members of his cabinet, to Ezeofor Alor for Íkpó-jí  at Nkwo Alor Market Square, Timesreporters Online has learnt.
Information made available to newsmen in the State indicates that the purpose of the Traditional Visit is for the Igwe of Alor to inform Ezeófór that the new yam is due for harvesting, signalling the Ezeófór to go to Nkwo Alor Market Square on Nkwo Market day to display the New Yam.
The week-long ceremony shall commence with the visit of Ezediohamma 111, Igwe ji ófór Alor, and some members of his cabinet, this weekend to Ezeofor Alor for Íkpó-jí  at Nkwo Alor Market Square.
The purpose of the Traditional Visit is for the Igwe of Alor to inform Ezeófór that the new yam is due for harvesting, signalling the Ezeófór to go to Nkwo Alor Market Square on Nkwo Market day to display the New Yam.
Thereafter, the Ezeòfòr shall perform the display of the new yam which shall be the traditional and cultural authority for the Igwe ji ófó Alor, Ezediohamma 111, to celebrate the new yam so that Alor people can begin to eat the new yam.
The traditional visit to Ezeófór by the Igwe of Alor and some members of his cabinet and the íkpó-jí by the Ezeófór Alor is the most important part of the culture and tradition of Alor people that a traditional ruler (an Igwe of Alor Jí ófór Alor) must perform before the eating / celebration of the New Yam Festival.
The 2023 Iwa Ĵi Alor proper is scheduled to be held on Saturday, August 5th, 2023, at the Igwe’s Palace after the above-mentioned preliminary cultural and traditional ceremonies.
