The Executive Secretary, National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children’s Education (NCAOOSCE), Dr Muhammad Idris has presented data of children mopped up from the streets to the FCT Education Secretariat for onward enrollment into schools.

Idris, while presenting the data at the official handing over of the 22,307 children, tasked the FCT education Secretariat to key into the mandate of President Bola Tinubu in removing 10million out-of-school children from the streets.

“President Bola Tinubu has signed a pact with Nigeria to take back to school 10million Nigerians roaming the streets to prevent insecurity.

“This gathering is a fulfillment of that promise because he is passionate about the downtrodden.

“It is our duty as a commission to ensure those 10 million Nigerians are back to school and we have started this in the discharge of our godly responsibilities.

“Any country that accept to compromise the quality of its education is tantamount to failure,’ he said.

The executive secretary said this was part of the ongoing effort by the President Bola Tinubu to tackle insecurity and ensure the young generation were not susceptible to acts inimical to national development.

He added that the president was also not oblivious of the hardship Nigerians are facing, noting that collectively stakeholders must work to sharpen the nation as top head among committee of nations.

He thanked the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike for their support in bringing the children off the street.

He also commended Wike for promising to provide school uniforms, learning materials to the children.

He pledged to sustain the deployment of Special Marshal to enhance the ongoing effort to mop up the Almajiri and out-of-school children across the country.

Receiving the data at Karu, Deidei and Kuje respectively, the Chairman FCT Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Hassan Sule, who represented the FCT Mandate Secretary, Dr Danlami Hayyo, said the FCT administration had made provision for learning materials as well as school uniform for all the identified children.

He also said that stringent measures would be meted on parents and guardians aiding and denying the children from access to education.
