The Resource Centre for Human Rights and Civic Education (CHRICED) has called on the Federal Government to make the fight against corruption a top priority.

Mr Ibrahim Zikirullahi, Executive Director of CHRICED, made the call at a news conference in Abuja on Thursday.

He said corruption remained a significant challenge in Nigeria, undermining progress in nearly every sector.

Zikirullahi emphasised that addressing the root causes of corruption could unlock significant financial resources, fostering a more sustainable economic environment.

The centre also urged the National Assembly to enhance the legal frameworks governing anti-corruption agencies, including constitutional integration and ensuring accountability for officials found guilty.

CHRICED commended the Supreme Court’s ruling rejecting the lawsuit by 16 governors challenging the legality of anti-graft agencies.

The centre also lauded the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Prosecutor, Mr Rotimi Oyedepo, and the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation for their contributions to the fight against corruption.NAN
