A group, Concerned Edo Ladies, Tuesday, called on those involved in cult war that has resulted to the killings of several youths in the state to sheath their sword and embrace peace.

The group, clad in black, with branded placards with the inscriptions “Stop killing people in the name of justice, say no to killings in Edo, stop killing our husbands, stop killing our brothers, stop killing our leaders, stop killing our youths” and others, said, the act has made them young widows.

In a statement signed by the conveners of the group, Precious Omoghan Ikponmwen and Ojo Gloria Eki, made available to Journalists at the premises of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State council, said the killings are needless rather they should embrace a peaceful means of resolving their differences.

They said the youths are the leaders of tomorrow hence they should see themselves as such and promote what will engender peaceful co-existence and meaningful development in the state.

“A call to your good office. I am writing to you with a heavy heart regarding the recent tragic events unfolding in Edo State, specifically the senseless killings of youths that have brought sorrow and despair to our communities.

“As a concerned citizen, I humbly seek your wisdom and guidance in advocating for the restoration of peace and harmony in our beloved state.

“The youths are the hope and future of our nation and it is disheartening to witness their lives being cut short by violence and conflict.

“Your voice holds great influence in fostering reconciliation and promoting dialogue among all members of our society.

“I appeal to you sir, to use your esteemed position to advocate for an immediate end to the senseless violence plaguing our communities.

“By encouraging peaceful coexistence, dialogue, and understanding, we can pave the way for healing and reconciliation among all parties involved.

“Your guidance and support in mediating conflicts, promoting tolerance, and advocating for justice will be instrumental in restoring peace and stability in Edo State.

“Let us stand together as a united community, bound by the values of peace, compassion, and respect for all individuals.

“I humbly request your good office, to lend your voice and authority to the course of peace and unity in Edo State.

“Your leadership and influence can make a significant difference in bringing about positive change and ensuring a brighter future for our youths”, they said.

Also speaking, Sandra Aigbogun said that the killing was becoming so alarming that they decided to come together to kick against the nefarious act in the state.

Responding to the protesters, the NUJ chairman, Dr. Festus Alenkhe commended them for taking the initiative of calling the youths to sheath their sword upon themselves.

He said that the killings have the potential of affecting the manpower development of the state and therefore the killings must be stopped.
