The Africa Network Campaign on Education For All (ANCEFA) has secured a grant from Open Society Foundations through the Open Societies in West Africa (OSIWA) to implement a regional educational project.

The Policy Advisor, Civil Society Action Coalition on Education for All (CSACEFA), Mrs Odinakachi Ahanonu said this at a capacity building workshop for CSACEFA members in Abuja on Thursday.

Ahanonu said that the project would be implemented over a two – year period.

She said that the project was themed, “Securing Education Transformation Agenda in Africa’s Regional and Sub-Regional Policy Spaces through Vibrant Civil Society Engagement in Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDGs4)and Africa Union’s Continental Education Strategy for Africa”.

According to her, ANCEFA is implementing the project with national coalitions from 12 countries.

Ahanonu said that CSACEFA Nigeria was one of the implementing partners at the national level.

“The essence of the training is to strengthen the capacity of civil society organisations aimed at improving CSOs with the use of relevant tools.

“The training is basically conducted at the national level for FCT CSACEFA.

“We have just less than six years for the SDGs and it is very unfortunate looking at how the whole things are going, it might be difficult for Nigeria to achieve the SGDs,” she said.

Ahanonu said that one of the key focuses of the training was to train the CSOs to see how they can contribute to that achievement.

“We find out that achieving the SDGs is the responsibility of all, not only the government.

“The training is to effectively contribute to the achievement of SDGs 2030,” she said.

Also the CSACEFA FCT Focal person, Abdullahi Sale, said that there was need to work with government and other interest groups to see that the SDG targets were achieved.

Mrs Nkiru Osisioma, Executive Director,
Humanitarian and Empowerment for Grassroot Initiatives said that education should be seen as a collective responsibility, and not be left in the hands of government alone. (NAN)
