Barrister Murtala Aliyu Kankia, National Legal Adviser of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has urged Nigerians to recognise the gains of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration while insisting on sustained accountability as the country pursues the Renewed Hope Agenda.
In an Eid‑ul‑Mawlid message to Muslims, Kankia linked the Prophet Muhammad’s teachings on justice, honesty and compassion to the responsibilities of political leadership, governance and citizenship.
He said the Renewed Hope Agenda should remain central to national efforts to transform Nigeria through economic reforms, infrastructure development, human capital investment, security and social protection.
“Leadership is a responsibility, not merely a privilege,” Kankia said, calling on citizens to judge government policies by their impact on the economy, livelihoods, education, infrastructure and security, rather than partisan arguments.
Kankia described the Tinubu administration’s reforms as necessary steps to reposition the economy and lay the foundation for sustainable growth.
He urged Nigerians to support policies that advance national development while also demanding measurable results and constructive criticism where improvement is needed.
With the 2027 general elections on the horizon, the APC NLA warned politicians against placing personal ambition above national interest.
He urged APC members and other political actors to make the forthcoming contest a battle of ideas and records, not religion, ethnicity or inflammatory rhetoric.
Kankia also appealed to religious leaders to promote peaceful coexistence and to discourage hate speech and political manipulation.
He particularly cautioned young Nigerians against being used as instruments of political violence, urging peaceful and active participation in the democratic process.
He called on Muslims to pray for President Tinubu and other national leaders and urged continued efforts to strengthen the economy, expand infrastructure, improve education and skills development, and deepen social protection.
Felicitating the Muslim Ummah on Eid‑ul‑Mawlid, Kankia expressed optimism that Nigerians would approach the 2027 elections with greater political maturity, judging candidates on ideas, track records and capacity to deliver.
“We must continue to support what is good for Nigeria, demand accountability where necessary, and place the national interest above personal and political ambition,” he said.
