The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Enugu State Chapter, has successfully elected a new Executive Council to pilot the affairs of the Council for the next three years.
This election, which was initially stalled three months ago, finally took place on Saturday, June 7, 2025, following the appointment of a caretaker committee to oversee the interim period.
Comrade Obinna Ogbuka of Radio Nigeria emerged as the new chairman, succeeding Comrade Sam Udekwe of Enugu State Broadcasting Service (ESBS), who withdrew from the race before the rescheduled election.
Comrade Chinedu Adonu of Vanguard Newspaper was elected after defeating Regis Anukwuoji of Business Day.

In his acceptance speech, Comrade Ogbuka, the former chairman of the Radio Nigeria Chapel, declared the dawn of a new era in the NUJ Enugu Council.
“With my emergence as the chairman, a new administration has taken off,” he said. “We are committed to serving the interest of all members. The welfare of our members will be our top priority. I appeal for the cooperation and support of everyone to achieve our goals.”
He also commended the electoral committee for conducting a credible and widely accepted election, emphasizing the importance of unity and a collective voice in moving the union forward.
