The Federal Ministry of Education, with support from UNICEF has embarked on a nationwide Training of Trainers (ToT) programme, aimed at strengthening school safety and climate resilience in Nigeria.
This is contained in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja on Thursday by Mr Believe Eke, Education Specialist at UNICEF.
Eke said that the training was in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and other key stakeholders.
He said that the initiative followed the national launch of three critical handbooks designed to address pressing challenges in the education sector.
According to him, the handbooks are the Climate Change Education Handbook, Early Warning Guide and Managing School-Related Violence Handbook.
He said that the programme was intended to move these handbooks from policy to practice in classrooms nationwide.
In the same vein, the Director, Education Support Services, Larai Ahmed representing the Ministry, underscored the Ministry’s commitment to integrating safety, security and climate responsiveness into the educational system.
Ahmed described the handbooks as “not just tools, but transformative frameworks for change,” and stressed that no Nigerian child should be left behind in accessing quality education in a safe learning environment.
“The Training of Trainers programme is a critical step in translating these handbooks from policy documents to practical tools in our schools,” she added.
Ahmed said that the Ministry was committed to collaborating with both state and non-state actors to ensure the widespread adoption and practical application of the handbooks.
According to her, the partnership aims to facilitate a unified approach to educational development, leveraging the expertise and resources of various stakeholders to achieve common goals.
Master trainers were drawn from 16 states across the country such as Delta, Nasarawa, Kogi, Enugu, Plateau, Anambra, Lagos, Benue, Kaduna, Niger, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara and Jigawa.
Key government and technical institutions participated in the programme, including the Federal Ministry of Education, Federal Ministry of Environment, UBEC, Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC), and academic bodies. (NAN)
