The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has called for unified policies and public-private partnerships to ensure Nigeria’s aviation sector leads in adopting green technologies..

Keyamo, who spoke during a courtesy visit by the House of Representatives Committee on Climate Change on April 8, 2025, reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to addressing climate change.

He emphasized the aviation sector’s responsibility in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adopting sustainable practices.

The Minister noted that Nigeria, as a member of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), aligns with global initiatives such as the Paris Agreement and ICAO’s Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA).

He highlighted efforts by agencies under the Ministry, including the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), which have implemented measures like seasonal climate predictions and airport carbon accreditation programs.

He recalled that Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport achieved a 6% reduction in carbon footprint in 2021, earning Level 2 ACA accreditation.

Keyamo also discussed plans for advancing Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) and Low Carbon Aviation Fuels (LCAF), alongside collaborations with the National Council on Climate Change.
