Hon. Joshua Chinedu Obika, representing AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has received the National Education Debate Icon Award as House of Representatives Member of the Year, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to promoting quality education in Nigeria.

The award was presented to him at the Nationwide Inter-Secondary School Debate Competition, where he delivered a keynote speech on the role of the legislature in promoting quality education in Nigeria. The event, which brought together students, educators, and policymakers, aimed to celebrate excellence and intellectual courage among young Nigerians.

In his speech, Hon. Obika emphasized the importance of education in national development, stating that it is the backbone of a prosperous society. He outlined the critical role of the legislature in shaping, strengthening, and sustaining quality education, including lawmaking, education financing, and advocacy for increased funding for schools.

Hon. Obika also highlighted his own efforts in supporting schools in his constituency, including renovating learning facilities, providing instructional materials, and offering scholarships to indigent students. He urged students to think boldly, speak confidently, and dream without limits, assuring them that the legislature will continue to support policies that strengthen education and empower young people.

The event also recognized outstanding students, presenting the Student Future Champion Award to deserving recipients. The competition provided a platform for students to showcase their debating skills, critical thinking, and knowledge of current issues.

Hon. Obika’s award is a testament to his commitment to promoting quality education in Nigeria. As a legislator, he has consistently advocated for increased funding for education and supported initiatives that promote digital education, ICT training, and access to technology for all students.

The National Education Debate Icon Award is a prestigious recognition of Hon. Obika’s contributions to education development in Nigeria. It is expected to inspire other lawmakers to prioritize education and support initiatives that promote quality education in the country.

The event was attended by the Minister of Education, Director, Bring it on Africa, distinguished judges, principals, teachers, and members of the media. The competition was organized to promote critical thinking, public speaking, and leadership skills among young Nigerians.

Hon. Obika’s speech has been widely praised, with many stakeholders calling for increased support for education in Nigeria. The speech has also sparked a national conversation on the importance of quality education in national development.

As Nigeria strives to achieve its development goals, the role of the legislature in promoting quality education cannot be overstated. Hon. Obika’s award serves as a reminder of the importance of investing in education and empowering young people to drive national development.

The Nationwide Inter-Secondary School Debate Competition has become an annual event, providing a platform for students to showcase their skills and compete with their peers. The competition is expected to continue to inspire and empower young Nigerians to become leaders of tomorrow.
