The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has described late Senator Ayogu Eze as a respected leader and man of immense character whose dedication to public service was unparalleled.
Kalu stated this while paying his tribute at a Service of Songs organized in Abuja Friday night in honour of the late Senator who represented Enugu North senatorial district in the National Assembly between 2007 and 2015.
In a statement by Levinus Nwabughiogu, Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Speaker,Kalu paid a glowing tribute to late Senator Eze describing him as a respected leader and man of immense character whose dedication to public service was unparalleled.
It will be recalled that Senator Eze who passed on late April this year was a former spokesman of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria where he also represented the people of Enugu North Senatorial District from 2007 to 2015 upon his election as a lawmaker in the National Assembly.
A former Commissioner for Information in Enugu State, Senator Eze was also a journalist and prolific writer.
Kalu who said that Senator Eze championed the cause of his constituents and the nation throughout his time in the Senate also extolled his commitment to deepening Nigeria’s democracy, stressing that the deceased left a lasting legacy that will continue to benefit Nigerians for years to come.
The deputy speaker added that Senator Eze’s death has created a void in the hearts of everyone who knew him even as he commiserated with the family.
He said: “With a heavy heart, we gather today to remember and pay tribute to a remarkable Nigerian, Senator Ayogu Eze. Senator Eze was a respected leader and a man of immense character.
“His dedication to public service was unparalleled. Throughout his
distinguished career, Senator Eze championed the causes of his constituents and our nation with utmost devotion.
“For the eight years he spent in the Senate, he was a member of the Constitution Drafting and Amendment Committee that made some novel changes to Nigeria’s 1999 constitution.
“He was also the official Spokesman of the Senate, serving as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Information and Media.
“Furthermore, his commitment to deepening Nigeria’s democracy leaves a lasting legacy that will continue to benefit Nigerians for years to come.
“Beyond his political accomplishments, Senator Eze was a man of great warmth and kindness. He was genuinely able to connect with people from all walks of life. He will be deeply missed, not only for his sharp intellect and political acumen but also for his jovial spirit and infectious laughter.
“To the Eze family, I can only imagine the depth of your grief. Please know that Senator Eze’s passing leaves a void not just in the APC, Enugu State, the South East, and Nigeria, but in the hearts of all who knew him.
“May his memory be a blessing, and may you find solace in the knowledge that his life and service touched countless others”.
