Kebbi Govt to spend N9.4bn on  rehabilitation of metropolitan roads in Birnin Kebbi

Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr Nasir idris has awarded a contract for the rehabilitation of roads in Birnin Kebbi town worth N9.4 billion.

Signing the official contract agreement in Government House, Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday, the governor said the rehabilitation and upgrading of metropolitan roads in Birnin Kebbi the state capital would reduce erosion challenges.

“Today is the official signing of contract for the rehabilitation and upgrading of city centre roads in Birnin Kebbi, the state is our state and we have seen things by ourselves; therefore, we want to make the state a befitting state capital,” he said.

Idris appealed to the company to abide by the contractual agreements and execute the work according to the specifications.

He assured that government would monitor and ensure full-fledge compliance of the work, and “In Sha Allah” in the next two weeks, we will sign another Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the completion of our Secretariat Complex in Gwadangwaji area in Birnin Kebbi.

“Similar road projects would be extended to other two Senatorial Districts as the government will do everything humanly possible to do justice to all the people in the state,” he said.

Idris also added that the government would renovate hospitals and schools by August, saying that, ” where the schools need construction, we will construct and where they need renovation, we will renovate.

“We cannot afford to fail education and health as well as agriculture as we will help our farmers to ensure food security in the state.” he assured..

On welfare of workers, the Governor said that the government would sustain timely payment of pension and gratuity to civil servants as well as prompt payment of salaries to all categories of workers in the state.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, State Ministry of Works and Transport, Alhaji Sa’adu Musa-Sakaba, said the projects happened to be one of the dream projects of the governor in giving the state capital a befitting outlook it deserves .

“The scope of the projects comprises, asphalts, overlaying of the dual carriage way from NNPC Mega station to Rima round about; from NDLEA roundabout up to Haliru Audu round about and from Haliru Audu round about up to AP 2 round about.

“Provision of solar street lights along the five major roads would be accompany the rehabilitation and drainages along Gwadangwaji and Oasis areas, among others,” he said.

According to him, the duration for the completion of the projects is 18 months period.

In his remarks, the General Manager of the company, Mr Ammar Nouri, assured of adherence to the contract specifications and completion of the project within the stipulated time.
