A Bill sponsored by the representative of AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Hon. Joshua Chinedu Obika has been introduced to establish the Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FCTEMA). According to a press release from Obika Media Team on Thursday, the proposed agency aims to coordinate and address disaster challenges in the FCT through provision of emergency management services.
The agency’s functions, if passed into law are, notifying the FCT Minister of disasters, coordinating disaster prevention and management efforts, collecting data for forecasting and maintaining an electronic database, and
developing loss prevention programs and procuring technology.
Others are responding to disasters and seeking financial and technical aid, distributing relief materials to affected communities, advising the FCT Minister on preventing impending disasters and collaborating with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
However, the bill outlines 14 key functions for the agency, demonstrating a comprehensive approach to disaster management in the FCT. If passed, the agency would play a crucial role in enhancing disaster preparedness and response in the nation’s capital.
