Two persons were shot dead on Tuesday while one person was beheaded on Wednesday in what is beleived to be rise in cult war in Awka, Anambra State capital.
The two were allegedly shot dead at Ifite Awka area, while the other was beheaded at Eke Awka market axis.
A trader at the popular Eke Awka market said many traders abandoned their businesses and ran home for safety.
Normalcy has returned as at the time of filling this report even as police spokesman Tochukwu Ikenga, a Deputy Superintendent of Police said he was not yet aware of the incidents but would find out later.
Our Correspondent also learnt that on July 26, 2023 thugs engaged by a suspected drug dealer at Agu Awka area allegedly attacked police team that invaded his hideout and injured and disarmed some of the security operatives.
The incident which caused serious panic happened about 5.30pm on Saturday drew the attention of passers-by and residents of the area.
An eyewitness told journalists on that some of the policemen believed to have came from ‘B’ Division of Nigeria Police, Anambra Command stormed the drugs dealer’s spot, conducted search and seized bags of illicit drugs.
The source who pleaded anonymity said, while the police was still on with the search, one of them started answering telephone call and not long after an army of thugs arrived the place.
According to the source, immediately the thugs arrived, they allegedly pounced on police team, overpowered them and seized their guns and later retrieved the drugs they got from the place.
He said, ‘it was in the process of this attack that one of the policemen who drove the team drove off.
Not too long after, the police driver returned with other policemen who engaged the drug dealers in a discussion”.
He said, it was not clear if they returned with their guns and ammunition because the incident dragged for more than two hours.
It was learnt that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in-charge of ‘B’ Division Michael Ojebe, detained may have detained two of the inspectors involved in the operation for reasons not quite clear.
