As part of its social responsibility, Halal Children’s Home, an NGO, has distributed stable food items to 102 widows in Lugbe community, Abuja.
The organisation’s President, Mrs Ramatu Abubakar, explained that the economic situation necessitated the outreach in Abuja on Sunday.
“We chose to empower widows to support their families.
“Our organisation already supports children of these widows who are out-of-school, helping them return and stay in school.
“We realised their mothers also need support, struggling to feed themselves. As a first step, we’re sharing essential food items with them.
“Some widows are already entrepreneurs or engaged in various activities.
“Our next step is to identify those we can assist in enhancing their businesses for greater self-reliance,” she said.
Abubakar emphasised the importance of supporting vulnerable families, especially those affected by the loss of a breadwinner.
“We’re complementing government efforts to reduce out-of-school children,” she added.
Home Supervisor Zainab Basah noted that the 10-year-old organisation provided humanitarian services regardless of religion.
“Widowhood knows no faith,” Basah said.
One of beneficiaries, Hasanat Akanbi, expressed gratitude for the timely assistance, citing economic challenges.(NAN)
