The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has said its ongoing ward-level enrolment exercise for the National Identification Number (NIN) is progressing steadily across Nigeria, urging citizens and legal residents yet to register to take advantage of the decentralised initiative.

In a press statement signed by Kayode Adegoke, Head of Corporate Communications at the commission, and issued on March 3, the commission noted that the enrolment drive, which officially commenced on February 16, 2026, is aimed at expanding identity coverage and bringing registration services closer to communities nationwide.

According to NIMC, the NIN remains a critical requirement for accessing several government services in Nigeria, making it essential for all citizens and residents to obtain the unique identity number.

The commission therefore encouraged individuals who have not yet enrolled to visit designated ward-level registration centres to complete their enrolment.

To ensure a smooth registration process, NIMC advised members of the public to check its official website to locate the nearest designated enrolment centre within their wards.

It also urged applicants to cooperate with enrolment officials and provide accurate information during the registration process.

“NIMC remains committed to achieving inclusive identity coverage nationwide and calls on all citizens and residents to come out en masse to register and obtain their National Identification Number,” the commission said.

The agency also advised the public to rely only on verified information from its official communication channels for updates on the exercise.

Further information about the enrolment exercise and other services can be accessed on the commission’s website at www.nimc.gov.ng.

Citizens can also contact the commission through its helpline 0800-061-6462 for inquiries.

For individuals seeking to begin the registration process online before visiting an enrolment centre, the commission said the pre-enrolment portal is available at penrol.nimc.gov.ng.

Those who wish to update or modify their data can do so through the self-service modification portal at selfservicemodification.nimc.gov.ng.

NIMC also urged Nigerians to download the NINAuth mobile application, available on both iOS and Android platforms, to enable secure digital identity authentication and access to identity-related services.

The commission further encouraged the public to follow its official social media handles on X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn for verified updates and announcements regarding the enrolment drive.
