National President of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Dr. Ike Neliaku said efforts are on top gear to establish the first public relations university in the world by the Institute as preparations have reached an advanced stage.
This is even as the Institute has proposed the founding of public relations finishing school, an equivalent of the Nigerian Law School, aimed at unlocking professionalism and excellence in the training and practice of public relations practitioners in the country, saying such will contain quackery in the profession.
Dr. Neliaku made this known during a reception in honour of the Institute’s Vice President, Prof. Emmanuel Dandaura, in Lafia, Friday.
He explained that NIPR leadership had formed what is known as Nigeria Reputation Management Group, a deliberate measure taken by the Institute to rebuild Nigeria’s image in the international community currently supervised by Mr. Adewale Adeniyi,Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, noting that in 2024, Nigeria’s spokespeople will be hosted by the Institute towards improving the quality of service being delivered by professionals.
He announced that by January, all practitioners must have been licensed to avoid the wrath of the law as anyone caught practising without being licensed remains an ex-convict in the face of the law.
Inaugurating a twelve-member Presidential Committee for the conduct of Nasarawa chapter’s election, the NIPR President explained that the Committee has three months to stabilise the chapter and conduct election for substantive executive council.
The Presidential Committee comprises John Attah as Chairman, Jameel Zakari (Vice Chairman), Mukhtar Wakeel (Member), Louis Ogah (Member), Ahmad Jubrin (Member), Rayyanu Bala (Member), Enoch Maku (Member), Abraham Ekpo (Member) Anthony Eguavoen (Member) and Deborah Dangara as Secretary.
Speaking after the inauguration, Chairman of the Presidential Committee in the state, John Attah, appreciated the NIPR for the confidence reposed in them, assuring the President of the Committee’s determination to work in accordance with their mandates.
Attah, a former spokesperson of the Nigeria Customs Service, hailed the Vice President of the Institute, Prof. Emmanuel Dandaura is a Nasarawa native, for being upright in his endeavours, challenging him to continue to support the Neliaku-led leadership of the Institute to succeed.
In a vote of thanks, the Vice President of the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations, Prof. Emmanuel Dandaura thanked the Nasarawa chapter of the Institute for “the warm reception”, reiterating his commitment to providing professional and intellectual contributions to the NIPR whenever it is required.
