The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has commended the Nigerian Army, for providing a secure and conducive environment for Corps Members and NYSC formations across the nation.

According to a statement signed by Caroline Embu, Director, Information and Public Relations, the DG gave the commendation during a courtesy visit to the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division, Nigerian Army, Jos, Major General Folusho Oyinlola.

He noted that the Scheme cannot thrive in an insecure environment, stressing that the success of the NYSC is largely dependent on the safe and peaceful atmosphere provided by the nation’s security agencies.

He praised the Division for consistently living up to its responsibilities, noting that the NYSC has never had to cancel the commencement of an Orientation Course in any state under the Division’s jurisdiction due to security concerns.

The Director General disclosed that over 7,000 Corps Members are currently serving in Plateau State and making meaningful contributions to the socio-economic development of the state through their various places of primary assignment.

He further stated that, since its inception, the NYSC has continued to promote national unity, integration and social cohesion by fostering inter-tribal marriages, encouraging cultural exchange and creating opportunities for youth empowerment and job creation.

General Nafiu also highlighted the Scheme’s contributions to the health and education sectors through the deployment of Corps doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals to hospitals, as well as teachers to public schools across the country.

“We seek your continued support in providing an enabling environment for us to effectively discharge our mandate,” he said.

The Director General added that the Scheme is currently implementing reforms aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and improving service delivery.

In his remarks, the 3 Division GOC, Major General Folusho Oyinlola, commended the DG for the remarkable initiatives and achievements recorded since he assumed office as the Chief Executive of the Service Corps.

He described the Director General as a worthy ambassador of the Nigerian Army and also lauded the NYSC Plateau State Coordinator, members of staff and Corps Members for their dedication and outstanding performance in the discharge of their statutory responsibilities.

“Whether we like it or not, testimonies abound about the positive impact of the NYSC. Keep up the good work, and I am confident you will continue to take the Scheme to greater heights,” the GOC said.

General Oyinlola reaffirmed the commitment of the 3 Division, Nigerian Army, to ensuring the safety and security of Corps Members serving within its area of responsibility at all times.
