IGP condemns Army attack on Adamawa Police HQ, calls it terrorism.

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Edbetokun, described the attack on the headquarters of the Adamawa State Police Command by the Army that led to the death of Inspector Jacob Daniel as an attack that could best be described as a terrorist attack.

He said, “The attack is unfortunate, unnecessary, and avoidable, but for the overzealousness of some officers.”

The IGP, while condemning the attack, urged the officers and men of Adamawa Police Command not to dampen their morals, as the police high command and the military high command are already on top of the situation.

” We have also put in place measures that will improve the welfare of officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force.”

“I urged you all to cooperate with us as we build a Police Force of our dreams that we will be proud of and the public will have confidence on and in line with best practices.

IGP Egbetokun had earlier visited Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri at government house Yola; he commended the governor for his quick intervention in the recent clash between police and military officers in Adamawa State.
The conflict that erupted on Tuesday last week began along Target Junction, Yola North Local Government Area, and resulted in the exchange of fire and a brutal attack on the police facility.

IGP Egbetokun made the commendation when he led some top Nigerian police officers on a courtesy call to Governor Umaru Fintiri as part of his working visit to the state.

He described the clash that led to the killing of one police officer as unfortunate, assuring that the situation is being handled and justice will be done at the end of the investigation.

The IGP assured adequate support to the Police Command in Adamawa and the State Government in maintaining security and peace to enable the Fintiri-led administration to perform better for the people.

He appreciates Governor Fintiri for the support being rendered to the police in carrying out security operations in the state, in addition to commending him for providing dividends of democracy to the people.

IGP Egbetokun revealed his vision for the Force to include, among other things, making the police friendly to the citizens, supporting the agenda of the government, and responding adequately to the dynamics of crimes and criminality.

Governor Fintiri lauded IGP Egbetokun’s efforts to bring about changes in the Nigerian Police Force, such as improving the welfare of personnel, saying the country has gotten the right man in the right place.

Governor Fintiri requested the establishment of a police mobile training school in Mbamba Yola as part of the commitment to boost the security of lives and property in Adamawa and Nigeria.

He noted with concern the recent clash between police and military officers in Yola, the state capital, and assured that, as soon as measures are completed the police and Army joint patrol should resumed immediately.
