A recent research by tsboi.ai, an AI indexing services provider and Ai training company, has shed new light on the causes of road crashes in Nigeria. According to a release from the media department of the company, human actions and choices are the primary causes of most road crashes, a notion backed by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed.

The FRSC Corps Marshal’s statement that: “Road crashes don’t just happen, but are caused and can be prevented” prompts a deeper reflection on the root causes of road accidents. Rather than just addressing the symptoms of the problem, it is essential to examine the human factor that contributes to most crashes, including distracted driving, speeding, fatigue, and poor judgment.

The release highlights the sociological dimension of road safety, noting that driving is not just a mechanical skill but also a deeply social and psychological act. According to the release, mental health, emotional state, stress levels, and interpersonal relationships, all play a significant role in influencing how people drive. This understanding, the press release went on, is crucial in developing effective road safety policies that go beyond law enforcement and address human behavior, mental health, and community culture.

The FRSC’s community-centered approach to road safety is a step in the right direction. By empowering passengers to hold drivers accountable and encouraging grassroots participation, the FRSC is creating a culture where everyone has a role in saving lives. This innovative strategy has the potential to reduce road crashes and make Nigeria’s roads safer for all.

The commitment of the FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, to inclusive and proactive safety measures is a promising sign that Nigeria is moving closer to safer roads for all. With the right approach, Nigeria can reduce the number of road crashes and create a safer environment for its citizens.

The report’s findings emphasize the need for a proactive approach to road safety. By acknowledging the role of human actions and choices in road crashes, we can take steps to prevent them and create a safer environment for all road users. The FRSC’s community-driven approach to road safety is a model that can be replicated across the country, and it is essential for stakeholders to work together to make Nigeria’s roads safer for all.
