Soludo made the announcement at Premier Primary School, Obosi, in  Idemili North Council area and Ado Girls secondary school, Onitsha.

Before now public schools in the State were tuition-free but all manner of levies were indiscriminately imposed on the pupils in virtually all the schools in the State.

While speaking, Governor Soludo said that the constitution of Nigeria requires government in Nigeria to as soon as it is practicable, offer free primary or secondary education.

He identified four categories of schools in the state as Private private schools, Mission Private schools, Mission public schools and Public public schools, saying that the poor people attend the last category of school which he explained will be used as a model in school administration and management.

He added that the aim is to go back to the basic when education was used as the equalizer, such that children from poor and rich backgrounds will attend the same school and compete favourably, stressing that his administration will commence massive infrastructural development in all government-run schools in the coming weeks and months.

Soludo was accompanied to the school by Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi, Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngọzi Chuma-Udeh, her Works counterpart, Engr. Ifeanyi Okoma, among others while teachers, pupils and Obosi community leaders, were present when the announcement was made.
