Once again Anambra shone like a thousand stars leading Nigeria to victory in the 2023 Malaysian International Bilateral Debate Championship.
While congratulating the winning Team Nigeria, Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo in a statement signed by his Press Secretary Christian Aburime enthused that this latest remarkable achievement is a further evidence of the relentless world-class scholarly excellence for which Nigerians in general, and Anambra State students in particular, are known for.
The Debate is organized yearly by The Malaysian International Schools Debate Education Society (MISDES) under the patronage of the Malaysia Ministry of Education.
The debate championship is meant to promote global intellectualism and world peace initiatives among young thinkers through advocacy and debate.
Expectedly the 2023 championship showcased the brightest minds from around the world. Daily Independent learnt that the competition witnessed intense debates and thought-provoking discussions as teams from Nigeria, India, China, Singapore and Pakistan traded intellectual tackles, after which Team Nigeria emerged overall winners.
The journey to global glory for the Anambra State-led Nigeria Debate Team started after MISDES invited some National Debate Teams to participate in their Championship and Team Nigeria was duly represented by the Anambra State Debate Team that won the Nigeria Inter-State Debate.
One after the other, Team Nigeria won Team Hin Hua of the Kuala Lumpur region in the quarter finals to qualify for the semi-finals and later again beat Team Pin Hwa, which comprised international students from India, China, Singapore and Pakistan.
In the finals, Team Nigeria battled for the Masters with the Malaysian National Team and won overall.
Governor Soludo commended the outstanding leadership of the Anambra State Debate Team, whose stage-by-stage brilliant performances have brought the laurel to Nigeria.
