The United Nations Educational, Scientific And Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has formally confirmed the establishment of an official partnership with ‘consultative status’ with the Pan African Writers Association ( PAWA).
The news was contained in a letter dated 22nd September 2023 and addressed to PAWA’s Secretary General, Dr Wale Okediran by Ms Audrey Azoulay, the Director- General of UNESCO with headquarters in Paris, France.
While welcoming PAWA to the community of UNESCO’s official NGO partners, the letter also stipulated the statutory obligations and advantages of the new relationship to PAWA.
In his response, Dr Okediran thanked UNESCO,  the DG as well as Mr Abdourahman Diallo, the  Country Representative of UNESCO in Ghana  and his team for the recognition.
He promised that PAWA will continue to play its noble roles in the promotion of Literature,  Culture, Peace and Literary translations on the African continent and beyond.
The Pan African Writers Association (PAWA), founded in November 1989, is a Ghana-based cultural institution “born in the larger crucible of Pan Africanism. It is an umbrella body of writers’ associations on the African continent and the Diaspora.
It’s mission is to strengthen the cultural and economic bonds between the people on the African continent against the background of the continent’s acknowledged diverse but rich cultural, political and economic heritage.
