Chief Ibe Osonwa, representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency of Abia, on Thursday, donated earth-moving equipment among other items to his constituents to boost rural access, and agricultural productivity.

Osonwa

The items included a grader, payloader, 50 motorcycles, 50 tricycle-size trucks, 30 mini buses, 100 sewing machines and 100 refrigerators.

Others were 100 air pressure machines, 100 generators, 100 grinding machines, and over 800 bags of rice.

The items were distributed to youths, women, farmers, artisans, and traders, who converged in their numbers on Ohafia LGA Secretariat, Ebem Ohafia.

Osonwa said the gesture was a demonstration of his people-based representation, placing economic tools in constituents’ hands.

He highlighted his impact on education, health, agriculture, ICT, and human capital development in three years.

He said: “We did not just concentrate on buses, grinders, sewing machines and all those things that we gave here today.

“We gave a grader and a payloader that creates road paths for our farmers because we are a farming community.

“We have good vegetation across our constituency and one of the biggest issues they face is their road accessibility.

“Every now and then, we will hire a grader that will cost us so much and, in some cases, millions will be spent for a two-day job.

“So, it is empowering not just the people here, but the whole constituency, which has always been our aim – to satisfy many and not a few.”

Gov. Alex Otti, represented by Deputy Gov. Ikechukwu Emetu, praised Osonwa’s approach, saying it aligned with his administration’s vision to promote productivity and self-sufficiency.

Otti urged leaders at all levels to collaborate with government for a more impactful democracy dividend to the people.
