The State Commandant of the corps, Mr Chukwuemeka Odimba, disclosed this during an interactive session with newsmen in Umuahia on Friday.

Odimba said that the personnel were drawn from the reinvigorated Operational and Tactical Teams of the command.

He said that Area Commanders and Divisional Officers had been “directed to be on yellow and effectively monitor and supervise personnel under them”.

He said the directive became necessary to ensure effective security coverage and coordination within the rural areas.

The new Abia NSCDC boss said that the command had taken adequate measures to provide protection for deserving VIPs in the state, in compliance with the Commandant-General’s directives.

He also said that special consideration was given to worship and recreational centres, government facilities and critical national assets and infrastructure across the state.

Odimba said that all the operatives deployed for the Easter operations would be strictly supervised to ensure they discharged their duties professionally.

He said that the command’s crime-fighting strategies had received a boost, with the Commandant-General’s recent approval and release of some specialised tech-driven, crime-fighting equipment.

He called on members of the public to assist the command and other security agencies in Abia with credible intelligence to serve them better.

Odimba warned criminal elements in the state to either turn a new leaf or relocate out of the state, vowing that the command would not tolerate any acts capable of disrupting the relative peace in the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)) reports that Odimba assumed office a few days ago as the 20th substantive NSCDC Commandant in Abia.
