…. Police Restrict Movement Of Persons, Vehicles
President Muhammadu Buhari has Thursday arrived Katsina enroute to his home town, Daura, ahead of the Saturday, February 25 presidential election.
The President was received at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International airport by the Katsina State Governor, Aminu Bello Masari, the Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Amb. Ahmed Rufai Abubakar and other top security brass as well as staunch government and party stalwarts.
He is expected to cast his vote at his polling unit close to his residence in Daura along with his wife, Aisha and other family members.
Meanwhile, the Katsina State Police Command, in its determination and commitment to ensure a free, fair, credible and peaceful Presidential and National Assembly elections across the 34 Local Governments Areas has ordered the restriction of movement of persons and vehicles from 12 midnight of Friday, 24/02/2023 to 6:00pm of Saturday, 25/03/2023.
Kolo Yusuf, the state Commissioner of Police who gave the directive in a statement said politicians and Very Important Personalities (V.I.P.s) are barred from going to any voting centre with their security details and orderlies.
“They are warned to desist from moving from one place to another on that day as stipulated by the Electoral Act 2022 (as amended)”.
Similarly, he said all entry and exit points into state are going to be manned and blocked by security personnel, as “No movement will be allowed until the elections are over”.
According to him, the Police and other security personnel will be conducting robust and purposeful patrols to ensure compliance with this order towards ensuring a hitch free exercise.
Kolo added that, the Command has made adequate arrangement to provide security for all voters to come out en mass and cast their votes without any fear of harassment or molestation.
“The deployment of policemen and other sister security agencies to man the polling units have also been concluded”, he affirmed, calling on all good citizens of Katsina state to partner with the police and other security agencies to make the elections a success.
He however warned that any person or group of persons, who may contemplate undermining the electoral process, will be tackled decisively.
“Parents are hereby called upon to warn their wards to dissuade from any contemplated illegality, as the full wrath of the law will descend on anybody caught in any infractions targeted at undermining any of the electoral laws and any other law of the land for that matter”, he concluded.
